General Meetings Our General Meetings are held bimonthly on the second Saturday of the month at "The Cottage" "The Cottage" will open at 11 am for unassisted research, the meeting will commence at 1 pm. Next Meeting February 2nd 2019 Guest Speaker:Sister Elizabeth Hellwig – Elizabeth Hellwig is a Dominican Sister, former teacher, historian and professional archivist. She is currently engaged in a study of the lives of eighty religious women in an Australian setting, over 150 years: who were they, how did the way they lived their years evolve and how did they react to the significant changes that occurred. Using examples from her study, and the life experience of the audience, Elizabeth would like to discuss with us Evolution and Revolution - Change and Context · What are our basic assumptions about life today that we did not hold in earlier days in our lives; · How we view our own horizons and what has caused these interpretations to change over time; · How we interpret historical points in former time from our current personal point of engagement with our world.
Wyong Family History Group will be at the Love Lanes Festival in its 3rd year to be held in Wyong.This year the group will be situated in the Wyong Town Park
The event will be held on Saturday 9th February 2019, to link with Valentine’s Day, across 3 laneways in Wyong CBD from 4.00pm – 9.00pm. The event will be an abundance of colour, sounds and smells of a food market plus the buzz, hype and vibe of a huge outdoor festival encompassing the theme of ‘Love’. Guests and stallholders will celebrate the fantastic food and entertainment from around the region with beautifully designed stalls and dining under the stars precinct created to soak up free live music across multiple stages, roving entertainment, circus precinct and art installations on local buildings. Wyong Family History Group was formed in 1983 at a meeting that was held in the rooms of Wyong Shire Library on the 3rd June 1983 with 32 in attendance. A committee was formed, and monthly meetings began. This continued for the next year, then they were held in member’s homes until a room became available at Wyong Public School, Rankin Court.
In 1986 we joined with Central Coast Family History Society to co-host a State Family History Conference at Old Sydney Town. It proved to be a big task but was a success. In 1992 we had outgrown the room in the old school, so we moved to Alison Homestead where we shared space with Wyong Museum & Historical Society. In 1997 we became incorporated, by then we had a respectable bank balance and owned a great deal of equipment and resources. By 2000 we again needed a new home, so in 2001 we took a small room at the Oasis Youth Centre in Hely Street, Wyong. We had two cupboards to hold our resources and one computer. Our next move was in April 2003 into shop 36 Wyong Plaza Shopping Centre where we shared space with the Wyong Chamber of Commerce. When the centre was closed for renovations, Wyong Shire Council came to our rescue and we were offered the use of two rooms in the new Wyong Community Cultural Centre, 6 Ranken Court, Wyong. By January 2006 we finally had the room to set up our equipment and hold our meetings in the same location and could display our small library collection. Now in 2019 we lease the whole building, continue to maintain a steady membership, run Special Interest Groups on different topics. We have Beginner’s Courses and Information Sessions. Our online subscription list has grown to include Ancestry.com, Deceased Online, Biographical Database, Roots Ireland. We have guest speakers who are notable experts in the field, at our General Meetings also our library has grown to include the most up to date publications as well as over 500 resource CD’s
